Project I-AADAPT (Identify and Address Alzheimers and Dementia in Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Prevention and Training): A Program for Family Members, Caregivers and Health Care Providers The 2 year project provides education and training to family members, service providers and medical professionals to identify and address the unmet needs of Alzheimers and dementia in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The primary objectives of Project I-AADAPT (Identify and Address Alzheimers and Dementia in Adults with IDD through Prevention and Training) is to: 1) Develop local capacity for providing dementia and IDD education and training and; 2) Improve family, service provider and clinician awareness and knowledge on dementia and IDD. Proposed activities to meet this objective are as follows: 1) Four (4) staff will participate in the National Task Group (NTG) on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices 3-day Train-the-Trainers workshop for the evidence-informed Dementia Capable Care Training curriculum to become NTG-affiliated trainers; 2) The Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator will conduct intensive reviews of existing education and training materials; 3) A team of NTG-affiliated trainers and local experts will adapt the Dementia Capable Care curriculum and develop educational materials specifically for family members, service providers and medical professionals; 4) The adapted curricula will be implemented through a total of 31 workshops: (13) workshops for family members (two days/4 hours per day); (13) workshops for Home Community Based Service (HCBS) providers across Arizona (one day/6 hours) and; (5) one-hour training sessions for healthcare professionals in Tucson. 5) Project implementation outcomes and impact outcomes will be evaluated including effectiveness of curriculum and educational materials to increase participants awareness and knowledge related to dementia care and resources for adults with IDD through pre-post tests/surveys.
