Project Description:
The Special Legislative Commission documented that a large number of children who are blind or visually impaired were unserved or underserved. The Rhode Island Vision Education and Services Program was established at the Sherlock Center to serve these children. RIVESP's activities include: (1) providing vision education and services to children through an itinerant teacher model; (2) providing orientation and mobility services; (3) creating standards for quality services; (4) measuring the outcomes achieved by children with visual impairment; and (5) collaborating with other organizations to develop a comprehensive network of services and supports.
