Children with Disabilities Child Welfare Initiative
Project Description:
In 2021, discussions occurred between staff from the Arkansas Commission on Child Abuse, Rape and Domestic Violence and Partners regarding the needs of children with disabilities that were entering the child welfare system and the needs of those within these systems. After several discussions the following was planned and subsequently initiated with the following as an overall goal for the effort.
Goal #1: Improve the capacity of the child welfare system in Arkansas to respond to the needs of children with disabilities who have experienced abuse or trauma through a collaborative partnership with Partners for Inclusive Communities.
Objectives :
Identify evidence-based practices being utilized in child welfare
Determine specific needs, relative to children with disabilities, of stakeholder groups including families, providers and professionals by conducting a minimum of 3 focused listening session with each stakeholder group, compiling data from focus groups to share with Child Welfare Ombudsman and the ACCARDV, and using data to identify priorities for training.
Objective: Develop training modules on priority issues for various stakeholder groups through the development of curriculum on topics identified as high-priority utilizing research-based information and needs assessment data.
Objective: Pilot training modules for minimum of 50 people and modify training as appropriate based on evaluation results.
