Project Description:
During the grant year that ended June 30, 2018, the Mo LEND trained 15 long term trainees from the following disciplines: Occupational Therapy 3, Physical Therapy 3,Social Work 1, Speech Pathology 3, Psychology 2 (including a postdoc resident), Health Management and Informatics 1, Family and Self-Advocate 2. The schedule included a fall semester of didactic classes focusing on screening, assessment and medication for autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as cultural competence, leadership and team development. During the second semester, focus was on on diagnostic clinic activities. The majority of these activities focused on children who present with the question of a possible autism diagnosis. All trainees presented posters in April on their leadership projects. These required literature searches, evidence-based practice, IRB clearance as well as improving skills in the areas of written and oral communication and presentation as part of these research-based projects.
