2.3 Purposeful Life (FY 2023) The Purposeful Life: Family training series is a community outreach project focused on increasing the capacity of self-advocates and family members to live a purposeful life. In collaboration with the Center on Disability and Development (CDD) at Texas A&M University, Families of Autistic Children Engaged Together for Support (FACETS), College Station Independent School District (ISD), Bryan ISD the trainings are provided free of charge for family members and self-advocates and siblings without disabilities ages 11 and up on every first Thursday of the month throughout the school year. Childcare is available for ages 2+ and dinner is provided for all participants. Professionals, family members, and parents have worked together to develop the trainings and materials as well as to deliver the monthly training. All on a volunteer basis. All sessions were held live this year. FY 2022-2023 Sessions: October 6, 2022 Understanding Evaluations and Their Role in Education. November 3, 2022 Better Together- Forming a Partnership Between Families and Schools. December 1, 2022 Your Child's Health isn't Just Physical- Supporting Their Emotional Wellbeing. February 2, 2023 Privacy, Boundaries, and Consent- Strategies to Support Your Child. March 2, 2023 Guardianship- Which is the Best Option for Your Family? April 6, 2023 Who Needs to Know About You or Your Child's Disability? When and How You Can Share That Information. May 4, 2023 Safety Is No Accident- Teaching Safe Actions at Home and In The Community *** SURVEYS *** 118 Satisfactions Surveys completed Satisfaction 96 Strongly Agreed 22 Agreed Responses to the question "What did you like about this activity?" I enjoy every meeting as an opportunity to learn new skills and information is so worthwhile It was really easy to sit down, take a break and just listen to everything while we ate. Dr. Saenz was very personable, knowledgeable, and detailed in his talk. A very good talk to hear, good list of topics and explanations Providing childcare so we can listen. The review about different relationships. Explanations about Private vs Personal Great dynamic in the group, the questions and answers were awesome. Great idea to have language translation! It helped me to understand what to do when my child is an adult. Also helpful as my parents are aging.
