UNH Behavioral Health Integrated Care Gaduate Program
Project Description:
The University of New Hampshire, College of Health and Human Services Pathways to Behavioral Health Careers (PBHC) project is designed to increase access to high quality integrated primary/behavioral health (IBH) care for individuals in rural areas and medically-underserved populations. PBHC will enhance and expand the recruitment and cross-disciplinary training and field experiences of UNH Masters level social work students to work in primary care and integrated behavioral health/primary care settings. This proposal is in response to the Health Resources and Services Administrations Funding Opportunity for Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) program in the Professional Track.
The Projects goal is to enhance the integrated behavioral health care (IBH) in New Hampshire by preparing masters level social workers to work in interdisciplinary primary/behavioral health settings.
1) Prepare a total of 116 Master's level social workers and occupational therapists with the expertise in integrated primary/behavioral health care who work with individuals across the lifespan in New Hampshires rural and underserved communities over 4 years;
2) Enhance inter-professional education and training for graduate social work, and occupational therapy students in the context of integrated primary/ behavioral health care;
3) Increase the number and quality of internship sites in IBH for Master's level social work and occupational therapy students and,
4) Establish an infrastructure and process for Rapid Cycle Quality Improvement and sustainability of the UNH program for preparation of social workers occupational therapists and cross-disciplinary pre-service workforce development in integrated primary/behavioral health care.
