MYERS: Rural Disability Hub for COVID-19 Vaccination Outreach (ended 09-29-22)

Fiscal Year:
2023
Contact Information:
Project Description:
While messaging about COVID-19 vaccination is widely available, current approaches have not gained sufficient traction in rural communities to overcome persistent disparities in vaccination and masking practices, particularly among people with disability in rural communities. The Rural Disability Hub for COVID-19 Vaccination Outreach will improve rural understanding about COVID-19 and vaccination issues affecting people with disability through (1) community-informed and tailored materials development and outreach strategies and (2) recommendations for addressing structural barriers to vaccination. We will use community-level focus groups from varied communities (such as those with strict and less strict vaccination and masking mandates, and from those with above and below average vaccination rates) to gain insight into effective approaches. We anticipate the development of several tangible and accessible outputs (e.g. radio and print stories, flyers, infographics) along with recommended rural dissemination strategies for sharing within and beyond the UCEDD network. The Rural Disability Hub will disseminate rural outreach materials and strategies through multiple established disability, health care, public health, and other partners at the local, state and national levels, and will share information and lessons learned through the AUCD network.
