LEND – Raising Awareness within the Family Infant Toddler program about early detection of CP
Project Description:
Cerebral Palsy (CP), the most common cause of childhood physical disability, arises as a consequence of abnormal neurodevelopment or prenatal/perinatal injury to the parts of the brain involved in controlling movement. Delayed diagnosis of CP precludes timely delivery of therapeutic interventions early in life, the period in which treatment may be most effective for neurodevelopmental disorders. However, with scientific advances, high risk of CP can be made prior to age one. The funding targets building awareness within the Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program regarding the signs and symptoms of high risk for cerebral palsy through training and dissemination of materials.
