This committee meets twice monthly to create a mechanism that is revenue neutral to look at funding mechanisms in state programs to create better access for oral health services for patients with developmental disabilities. Dr. Beetstra is involved with both the national and the state work group that is looking at creating a carve out with Medicaid. This is a two year project funded by the Delta Dental Foundation. We are about to enter the second year after working on creating a program that will allow the State of Ohio to ask for a waiver to increase access to dental care for patients wit IDD and increase access to training to oral health providers. This project has created a tight workgroup within the state of oral health leaders. The next step is to bring the plan to legislators. It may take two additional years to fully implement but may increase access and reimburse providers for the extra time needed to care for individuals with IDD.
