DENTAL - National Pre and post Doctoral Dental Curriculum development and policy project
Project Description:
Dr. Beetstra was involved in the American Dental Association passing Resolutions 46-49 to improve dental education at the predoctoral, post doctoral, and continuing education. He testified at the National meeting in Las Vegas to push this initiative forward. As a result, the Special Care Dentistry Association has created a task force to address these issues with the end result of a national curriculum for predoctoral and post doctoral training programs focusing on the IDD. The task force meets at least monthly creating the predoctoral curriculum and finalizing the application to the Commission on Dental Accreditation to create general practice training programs to care for patients with IDD. This population is extremely underserved and the skills necessary to treat this population does not occur during pre and post graduate training. We expect creation of a curriculum that will be disseminated throughout all dental schools and the creation of IDD specific training programs.
