Project Description:
"CARE" stands for Caregivers Accessing Resources and Education, "well" represents wellness, and "collaborative" describes our model of information gathering. We will be collaborating with wellness experts from a variety of health-related disciplines to bring caregivers of children with disabilities succinct, practical, achievable wellness tips to improve their overall wellbeing. Caregiving can be stressful, isolating, and draining the caregiving experience can be. Without proper self-care and holistic wellness approaches, the all-consuming commitment to a loved one with a disability can have damaging life-long effects. Self-care and wellness matters for caregivers, but they aren't getting enough of it. Barriers to appropriate self-care and wellness range from lack of time to lack of funds to lack of respite care. Regardless of why caregivers so often do not or cannot access self-care or wellness practices, the fact remains it is imperative that they do. The aim of CAREwell Collaborative is to present self-care and wellness resources and education in a way that breaks down or eliminates these barriers for Kansas families. We know that healthier, happy caregivers result in healthier, happy families, and providing family-centered care is at the heart of what we do. CAREwell Collaborative will offer caregivers and families impacted by disability helpful, realistic tools and resources they can easily incorporate into their daily lives to improve their wellbeing. These tools and resources will be shared primarily through social media campaigns on Instagram (@carewellcollaborative) and the Kansas LEND Facebook page. Content will be created in collaboration with wellness experts as well as current LEND trainees from a variety of health disciplines at KUMC. This content will also be made available in a "monthly roundup" format in the GNO newsletter, so even if you don't utilize social media, you can still access these wellness tips!
