Project Description:
The UAB Early Head Start Program (UAB EHSP) is forming partnerships with families who have infants and toddlers and encouraging and supporting them as they fulfill their family responsibilities. The goal is to foster the growth of social competency in the children in our community and increase our knowledge of early childhood education to build a better community for our children and families. Families are eligible for services if they have an income below the Federal Poverty level and a child under 3 years of age at the time of recruitment. We also accept pregnant mothers. Priority if given to children of teen mothers; children with disabilities; children of families challenged by substance abuse; and children who are at risk for child abuse and neglect. The UAB EHSP also includes weekly home visits focusing on early childhood education and assistance in attaining family goals and community services, goup socialization activities, health and nutritional support services, and mental health and wellness support services. The Program is designed to hlep families gain access to comprehensive, community, and home based services. It is our goal to form partnerships with families and community providers to meet the special needs of each child and their family. We recognize and value the role of parents in all aspects of the program; therefore, we provide opportunities for parents to be involved in the program as decision-makers, volunteers, and/or employees.
