DOH - DCAB Interpreters Program
Project Description:
The Interpreter Skills Building Program is a 12-week ASL/English interpreting professional development program that consists of synchronous and asynchronous remote meetings to provide training, mentorship, and guidance as appropriate and based on the individual needs of the interpreters who participate in this program.
At the end of the 12 weeks, participants will be able to:
- Define elements of analysis for interpretations and utilize them in work assessment to identify patterns of success and patterns for improvement.
- Describe the sociolinguistic model of interpreting and identify the stage at which breakdowns occur.
- Identify semantic differences between high frequency non-manual markers found in ASL, and effectively incorporate their meaning in interpretations.
- List common culturally rich realities seen in ASL and multiple options for equivalent English translations.
- Tailor a rendered interpretation to suit various target audiences, while preserving the source meaning.
- Name their professional goals and corresponding resources and activities for development, in support of ongoing growth toward competence.
