Project Description:
This project is a community-academic partnership between the USC UCEDD at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and South Central Prevention Coalition (SCPC), a community-based non-profit agency with a recognized record of health promotion and disease prevention programs in South Los Angeles and greater Los Angeles County. The goals of the project are 1) to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination among caregivers of persons with I/DD, and persons with I/DD themselves ages 12 and older, through accessible community vaccination events; and 2) to address vaccine hesitancy in the population of caregivers of persons with I/DD, and persons with I/DD themselves, through educational pre-recorded workshops in English and in Spanish, and real-time Q & A zoom meetings with healthcare professionals. The project addresses an inequity in vaccination rates among caregivers of individuals with I/DD many of whom are members of marginalized racial and ethnic groups.
