2.03 TTAP - Texas Technology Access Program

NEED: The Texas Technology Access Program (TTAP) leads the state's efforts to carry out the federal Assistive Technology Act of 1998 as amended in 2004 and earlier versions of the law. The Grant was first funded in 1992 as the Texas Assistive Technology Partnership. GOALS: TTAP goals are State Level Activities which reflect access to AT through (1) short term device loans in which individuals check-out AT devices to determine if the device would be beneficial for future purchase/use and (2) demonstration, which are conducted at demonstration sites throughout the state of Texas to illustrate various assistive technology devices; and also acquisition which include (1) Financial Loan program, which loans money to individuals to acquire AT services and devices; (2) Reuse of Assistive technology in which AT devices are refurbished, reassigned or repaired; Additionally State Leadership Activities include (1) Public Awareness in which TTAP uses various print and media (e.g., newsletter, website, blogs) to inform the public about assistive technology news, information, events, and other assistive technology related information; (2) Training and Technical Assistance which can cover a wide array of topics and focus on and about assistive technology, and (3) Information and Assistance in which TTAP provides consumers, family members and professionals with just in time referrals information about AT. BENEFITS: Services of the project include information and advice to individuals and organizations about a wide range of assistive technology issues; training and technical assistance to AT professionals and others who help people with disabilities access and use technology; assistance to policymakers at all levels of the service delivery system to assure that technology access is incorporated into public policies for education, employment, community services and supports, health care and telecommunications, as required by laws like the ADA and IDEA; and statewide research on technology trends and consumer experience and satisfaction with technology access. TTAP serves the full life spectrum of individuals with disabilities.
