Parenting as a Path to Recovery/CASAT

Project Description:
Studies have found that almost half of parents enter treatment solely to regain custody of their children . As such, best practice dictates that parental recovery occurs within the context of family relationships, and include an emphasis on parent-child bonding, consistent discipline, and boundary-setting .In response to this need, the NCED developed and implemented Parenting as a Path to Recovery (PAPR), a state-wide interdisciplinary diagnostic and behavioral treatment service for families and youth effected by parent substance use disorders, specifically opioid and stimulant use disorders. The goal of PAPR is three-fold. First, PAPR will provide interdisciplinary diagnostic services. Second, PAPR will assist in the family reunification and preservation process by increasing parental capacity to provide the structure and positive parenting techniques required to successfully parent a child with developmental challenges. Third, PAPRs supportive services will lessen parental stress and, therefore, reduce relapse rates.
