Family Employment Awareness Training/AWS

For this project, we propose that we partner with IN*SOURCE to deliver nine Family Employment Awareness Training (FEAT) over three years across the northeastern region of Indiana targeted by the AWS Foundation. Each FEAT training includes a two-day intensive training (Part 1 and Part 2) and follow-up individual and group technical assistance. In addition, we will partner with IN*SOURCE and other relevant organizations in Indiana to develop and disseminate supplemental materials to support families as they seek to attain and maintain integrated competitive employment for their family members with a disability. The objectives of this proposed project include the following expectations for participants who attend FEAT: 1) Increase expectations for integrated competitive employment for people with disabilities; 2) Improve knowledge of local, state, and federal resources to support the employment of people with disabilities; 3) Increase state and local capacity through a train the trainer model using IN*Source as the primary training entity; 4) Improve problem-solving and self-advocacy skills of families and individuals with disabilities with regard to competitive employment. Expectations and knowledge are the basis of action. In order for families to hold high expectations for the employment of their family with disability, they need a better understanding of what is possible and what kind of supports are available. FEAT provides that through sharing about competitive supported and customized employment options and the resources that can be used to support employment.
