Project Description:
Leadership and Career Studies (formerly the Academy for Adult Learning), in its fourteenth year of operation, is a post-secondary education option for students with an intellectual disability or autism. Students are provided a college experience in an inclusive university setting at Temple University. The program has graduated more than 110 students, 68% of whom were employed at the time of graduation from the program. The program has been expanded to a four-year program, to mirror the typical college curriculum. Each student takes classes (generally audited classes) in the regular curriculum or through Pan African Studies Community Education Program (PASCEP). In addition, they are now eligible to take classes leading to a four-course certificate programs in the College of Education. Each student is matched with a Temple University undergraduate student who is a mentor (paid) to the student.
