Project Description:
I am seeking support for travel to the ComedySportz World Championship, a conference that will be held from July 7-11 in Houston, Texas. I serve as an Assistant Research Scientist at the Center on Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community. I am lead on a number of projects in the field of applied improvisation, which uses improv theater techniques to enhance outcomes in business, educational, medical, and therapeutic settings. My projects include facilitating improv-based professional learning for educators, therapists, public health professionals, and IU researchers. The ComedySportz World Championship represents a unique opportunity for me to enhance my research and creative activity. ComedySportz is an improv performance format that is appropriate for all ages, and the organization is innovative in its development of sensory-friendly events and applied improvisation training. The conference will afford me the opportunity to present on my work, confer with top scholars in the field of applied improvisation, and learn from professional instructors in both performance and applied improvisation. These opportunities will impact my research and professional development significantly. I will have the opportunity to enhance my skills to work with diverse audiences, keep current on the state of the field, and share my work with an international network of professionals.
