Fiscal Year:
2022
Contact Information:
Project Description:
ArtWorks is a art studio and a gallery providing instruction in the arts, life, and vocational skills to adults with disabilities, in a setting where all persons are respected and valued. The staff of professional artists provides exposure to a variety of media including drawing, painting, creative movement, music, ceramics, fiber arts and movie making. University students in a variety of disciplines participate in ArtWorks as well. This broad spectrum approach allows for a rich experience where each of the artists is able to explore his/her creativity within a safe, person-centered environment. Art projects are customized for the individual in order to achieve the greatest possible range of expression. We have four art studies and one gallery space on the Artworks campus, and two traveling gallery spaces in the community in additional to other community galleries which we collaborate periodically. Gallery openings and public shows representing ArtWorks artists and local community artists are held every few months which promote public interaction with the artists and their phenomenal finished works. Each individual is encouraged to explore his/her responsibilities towards others. Independence and interdependence are facilitated within a safe, culturally sensitive environment where the unique disposition of each individual is taken into account, with the goal being to expand interpersonal awareness and reduce isolation.
