Center for Dignity in Healthcare for People with Disabilities
Project Description:
The Boggs Center is a partner in the Center for Dignity in Healthcare for People with Disabilities, a coalition of eight national partners. Led by the University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, the coalition partners include: The Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities, The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, University of Kentucky - University Center on Disability, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Family Voices, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry. Funded by the Administration on Community Living, US DHHS, the Center's goal is to identify and reduce life-limiting healthcare inequities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) by improving access to anti-discrimination medical protocols and other materials. The Center for Dignity in Healthcare for People with Disabilities works to identify and help remove differences in health and healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by:
1) Understanding what professionals and individuals with disabilities need to know more about so individuals with disabilities will receive better care;
2) Increasing access to medical protocols that help with equitable healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities;
3) Increasing access to information about what prevents people with intellectual and developmental disabilities from receiving affordable, accessible healthcare, as well as achieving the same health outcomes as people without disabilities;
4) Increasing support for families and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to identify and address healthcare discrimination and medical ableism.
