Project Description:
2.3 Purposeful Life (FY 2022) The Purposeful Life: Family training series is a community outreach project focused on increasing the capacity of self-advocates and family members to live a purposeful life. In collaboration with the Center on Disability and Development (CDD) at Texas A&M University, Families of Autistic Children Engaged Together for Support (FACETS), College Station Independent School District (ISD), Bryan ISD, and the Brazos Center for Independent Living (BVCIL), trainings are provided free of charge for family members and self-advocates and siblings without disabilities ages 11 and up on every first Thursday of the month throughout the school year. Childcare is available for ages 2+ and dinner is provided for all participants. Professionals, family members, and parents have worked together to develop the trainings and materials as well as to deliver the monthly training. All on a volunteer basis. Due to COVID restrictions, trainings were provided online. The plan is to go back to live events for the 2022-2023 year. Very informative and well organized I loved all the information that was provided to us. So,I can prepare for what is best for my son. Dealing with the stress. How to break the chain of thought when all seems hopeless! Lots of info, but the representatives seem to know their stuff and offered to help individually. The leadership panel seemed as if they genuinely care--so nice! I like the activities and topics that are discussed during all the sessions because they help me better understand and work with my child.
