Fiscal Year:

Project Description:
This grant aims to build telecommunications capacity among adults with IDD and their families. The project will provide iPad 5G technology and service support to 87 adult Self Advocates (SAs) living in the Bronx area. iPads were distributed immediately along with instruction on how to use the equipment. This will enable the SAs to participate in weekly peer to peer virtual self-advocacy empowerment and problem-solving meetings. It will allow for sharing of important information Poverty and the disease trajectory place persons with IDD in the Bronx at very high risk for social isolation, lack of access to medical care, and a disruption in linking with community supports and much needed social contact with peers and family members. Last but not least, this technology enables vital medical intervention through telemedicine communication, treatment and services to this most vulnerable group of adults who are at high risk and essentially unable to leave their homes.
