RRTC on Health and Function - Mental Health Prevalence Study

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2021
Contact Information:
Project Description:
This is a sub contract of a national prevalence study to understand the prevalence of mental health conditions of adults with intellectual disabilities. There is a need for more research as the US has never had a robust research study on the prevalence rate of co-occurrence of IDD diagnosis and mental health conditions without significant compounding factors. The goal of the study is to validate self-report measures designed and tested in the first part of the study, and use them with the random sampling provided by the NCI framework to ascertain a reliable prevalence rate of dual diagnosis of IDD and a mental health diagnosis. Unlike prior studies, this study will utilize self-report assessments that have been specifically designed by and for the population with IDD to arrive at more reliable mental health diagnoses. The expected benefits of the study are validation of the self-report measures that can be used to reliably diagnose mental health disorders in individuals with IDD as well as provide a robust prevalence rate of the co-occurrence of those diagnoses.
