Role of Technology Use in Creative Activities of Individuals with IDD: Access, Inclusion, Visibility, Connection
Project Description:
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, visual arts studios for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have turned to technology to continue their missions. Traditionally, technology has played an assistive role, promoting equal participation, inclusion and access for persons with IDD. Using the opportunity of the rapid transition from studios as physical places to virtual spaces, we plan to advance the field of inclusive arts research by conducting an online survey-based, mixed methods study. With quantitative and qualitative narrative and audio-visual data, we will explore roles of technology, creative arts, and arts organizations, and the impact this has on the process and experiences of artists with IDD.
