Project Description:
The COVID-19 pandemic has created unique challenges for the Delaware
community and United States as a whole. Among these challenges, the disparities so
commonly faced by individuals with disabilities have been exacerbated. Advocacy efforts
are at the forefront nationwide to address issues directly affecting individuals with
disabilities and their families, including accessible accommodations, healthcare triage
processes, and appropriate emergency preparedness planning. Within Delaware, specific
areas of concern that have come to light in the wake of COVID-19 include (1) the need
for a clear pathway to access available services and resources in the state, and (2) the
need to educate healthcare providers on how to interact with and support individuals with
disabilities and their families.
Goal I: Develop plain language, accessible tip sheets for individuals with disabilities
and their families or caregivers.
Goal II: Develop educational resources for healthcare providers.
