Project Description:
To increase the intention and receipt of the COVID-19 vaccine among Latinx individuals with disabilities and their families through the dissemination of success stories and tailored educational materials in Spanish and English. NEED BY PRIMARY TARGET AUDIENCE- LATINX COMMUNITY: After vigilant advocacy by members of the disability community, families and their allies, California prioritized individuals with disabilities and their families for the COVID-19 vaccine in March 2021. Recently, the state expanded vaccine eligibility to all persons 16 and older. While many who were desperately trying to get the COVID-19 vaccine have received it, there are others who have yet to receive the vaccine. A national survey by the American Association on Health and Disability found that individuals with a cognition disability made up the largest percentage of those who were in the not sure about getting vaccinated and not getting the vaccine groups.[1] Misinformation, distrust of the safety of the vaccine, and physical and environmental barriers (inaccessible appointment scheduling, transportation, overcrowded or inaccessible vaccine sites) remain barriers for people with disabilities in getting the COVID-19 vaccine. These barriers are further compounded for people of color.
