Project Description:
This project will have the drafted manuscript on the history of how the profession - special education teachers evolved in MN's history professionally - edited and rewritten as recommended by the editor. The manuscript will also include references to related services staff (e.g., occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech pathology mobility specialists (cane travel), audiologists, school nursing, etc.) that support the provision of special education services to children with disabilities. The time period is from the 1840s when the first educational classes were organized to 2020 when the complete education system is available for all children with disabilities. The target population for the work are those professionals who educated children with disabilities ages birth to 21 in MN's institutions and public schools. The draft is organized by decade around the passage of state and federal special education laws which caused the development of services and therefore service providers to educate children with disabilities. These laws included state public school laws in 1915, 1957, 1961, 1971, and 1987. Federal laws included those in 1975, 1997, 2000, and 2004.
