Project Description:
La Linterna is an interdisciplinary program founded in October of 2019 by Dr. John Harlow, a pediatrician at AltaMeds Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles clinic, and Dr. Natalie Cruz, a psychologist in the Project Heal Trauma program at the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Through this program, immigrant youth receive trauma-informed mental health screenings, a medical check-up, and a consultation with attorneys about their legal cases. Each family is managed by a culturally competent care coordinator who connects patients to social services for needs like health care insurance, food insecurity, welfare and housing.
