Project Description:
This project is call attention to food insecurity in the veteran and service member population of South Dakota. The funds will be distributed in two rural towns of South Dakota which have large national guard units and populations of veterans. Each site will have a free pancake feed for service members, veterans, and families at visible sites to make the community aware of the food insecurity issue in this population. Gift cards to the local grocery stores will be distributed to SMVF that have been identified by the Veterans Service Officers and VA benefits officers. Gift card distribution will be done in private to respect the SMVF. This is a pilot project with hopes to make this an annual or bi-annual event across communities in South Dakota.
