Pay It Forward WV: Assistive Technology Device Reuse Project

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2021
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The Pay It Forward WV Project proposes the purchase of 17 pieces of mobility and recreation equipment primarily for children ages 3-12 living with some form of paralysis. Due to the expense of the equipment, the number of devices to be purchased is limited, thus limiting the number of individuals who can be served. Ideally, 17 individuals would be served by the Pay It Forward WV Project during the grant period, however some individuals may require more than one piece of equipment. The Pay It Forward WV Project will provide the equipment to the child as a long-term loan. It is estimated that the child would need the equipment for no more than two years. At that time, the family would return the equipment to be circulated through the states assistive technology reuse program, potentially serving many more children in subsequent years. The project will provide: - at least three children with adaptive tricycles to provide exercise, recreation and inclusion opportunities. Provide at least three children with appropriate therapeutic standing equipment -at least five children with gait training equipment to increase their independent mobility. -one child with an activity chair to increase their ability to participate in activities and reduce strain on the caregiver. - at least two families with adapted strollers to increase their ability to take their child into the community.
