Project Description:
Engage & Educate: Equipping the New York State Disability Community with Science-Based Information About Vaccines, a one-year grant from the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, was awarded to the Rose F. Kennedy University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) at Montefiore-Einstein on March 1, 2021. The project aims to increase access to/understanding of information about COVID vaccines among persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, to assist them in making informed decisions, with a particular focus on un- and under-served communities across New York State. The team is led by Karen Bonuck, PhD, Joanne Siegel LCSW, and Rachel Passmore, MPH. Project partners include: the Inter-Agency Council of New York, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, Special Olympics of New York, the Autism Society Habilitation Organization, the Chinese Planning Council, Community Inclusion and Development Alliance, and Sinergia, Inc.New York States two other UCEDDs- the Strong Center at the University of Rochester and Westchester Institute of Human Development- are also collaborating on the project.
