Project Description:
Families of children and youth with disabilities and special health care needs are educated and empowered to access and use telehealth/digital health literacy platforms
1. Choose a community with whom to partner (e.g., Lynchburg, Martinsville, Longwood, racial/ethnic community, young adults with IDD) and a partner in the community (e.g, YWCA, CIL, Title V, faith-based) that can assist in identifying and supporting families/people with IDD for whom telehealth/digital health literacy access and training is needed
2. Meet with community partner(s) to develop a plan to recruit and support families/people with IDD for educational opportunities related to telehealth/digital health literacy
3. Collect information on telehealth/digital health literacy access and knowledge (review state broadband mapping desserts, document barriers such as trust with medical community, conduct surveys via mail/internet/phone, etc.)
4. Review Family Voices approved telehealth trainings; choose at least two modules to present to families; confirm language they will be presented in (i.e., English literacy? Spanish? Arabic? ASL?); consider developing additional trainings/materials (e.g., training for physicians on strategies for communicating effectively with people with IDD through telehealth)
5. Work with Family Voices to evaluate and report the families/peoples satisfaction with the modules
