The Professional Development Grant Birth-5 Renewal Grant from the Administration on Children and Families will allow Missouri to expand and build upon initial work funded in year one. Missouris Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), along with early childhood partners across the state, will enhance their birth through five needs assessment, program performance evaluation plan, and strategic plan. Based on year one needs assessment results, DESE will implement collaboration, coordination, and quality improvement activities among existing programs in the state's mixed delivery system, including early childhood health programs. UMKC-IHD will work with DESE to expand access to existing programs and develop new programs to address the needs of children and families eligible for, but not served by, existing ECE programs. UMKC-IHD will also play a critical role to more effectively coordinate with existing ECE programs, engage parents, prepare children to enter kindergarten ready to succeed, and improve transitions from ECE programs to the local educational agency or elementary school.
