CESU - Feeding and Swallowing Clinic
Project Description:
The Center's Feeding and Swallowing Clinic provides a multi-disciplinary clinic-based team evaluation to assist individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and care providers in developing eating skills with the purpose of preventing aspiration and improving health. A written assessment with recommendations, mealtime program and videotape depicting appropriate feeding techniques is provided. The program also assists families and caregivers in locating community resources for direct treatment, adaptive equipment and follow-up services. The program provides technical assistance, support and continuing education for professionals and pre-service education for graduate and undergraduate students involved in feeding individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the life span. The program receives funding from the New Mexico Department of Health and fee-for-service.
