Distance Learning Overweight Prevention & Intervention Interdisciplinary Training Grant
Project Description:
This continuing education distance-learning project is designed to meet the need for interdisciplinary leadership training in overweight prevention and intervention for CSHCN. The training will enhance overweight prevention and intervention services for CSHCN in a manner that is comprehensive, coordinated, community-based, family-centered and culturally competent. By providing both an Instructional Videoconference (IVC) and a self-paced web-based interactive educational program to be accessible to State Title V Professionals and other MCH related professionals in local, State and Federal public health agencies, the project will support and strengthen Maternal and Child health (MCH) programs. The universal project goal is to increase knowledge and advance leadership skills of MCH professionals by:
· Providing interdisciplinary training in overweight prevention and intervention for children with special health care needs (CSHCN).
· Using a multi-site two-day instructional videoconference that will result in a web based interactive educational program.
· Providing a self-paced web-based curriculum to meet continuing education needs of State Title V agencies and related professionals in local, state and federal public health entities.
The program is designed to execute one video-conference in 2005, 2006, and 2007. The first conference will provide the foundation for the online professional education and will be updated annually after the conference. The three-year project is funded at approximately $330,000.
