Project Description:
This is an application an Educare Acceleration Grant Round 2, to fund the Mindfulness and Mastery project. The lead institution is University of Nebraska Medical Center. The purpose is to scale with (and across) Educare programs in establishing solid, positive social emotional frameworks that support programs and staff in turn effectively supporting the social emotional development of Educare children culminating in promoting childrens executive functioning. Maine is one of several sites in a multi-site proposal. The overall proposal has the following specific and sequential purposes: A. To support establishing (or maintain and reinforce) solid, positive social emotional frameworks that provide a common social emotional language and philosophy within a program (Conscious Discipline at Educare Central Maine). This will include procedures for on-boarding and regular practices that sustain the framework, and measurement of fidelity. B. To provide (or ensure implementation of) staff with training needed to sustain the framework including, specifically, training around trauma informed care; training on specific components; training on specific curriculum associated with the framework or that need to be integrated with the framework; and training on specific next steps (e.g., executive functioning). Training for Master Teachers in reflective practice. C. To support experimentation by adding the following components: executive functioning focus in classrooms; executive functioning activities for parents to provide to their children; mindfulness for teachers; mindful parenting, and training for master teachers for implementing the choice/s. Educare Central Maine will implement Conscious Discipline (CD) training for teaching personnel. UMaine personnel will sit on the local social-emotional leadership team at Educare Central Maine, and will design the CD evaluation. UMaine will conduct CD fidelity measurements in classrooms and will also conduct MEFS assessments of childrens executive function.
