Project Description:
A family partner is a parent who has first-hand experience with a child or children with a developmental disability, and who has exhibited exceptional qualities in his/her own efforts to develop viable resource plans for his/her child(ren). The Family Partner is also an active advocate beyond his/her own family. in addition, he/she has personal qualities that lend themselves to collaboration on various levels. The Family Partner possesses a positive attitude, sincerity, strong inter-personal skills, and a willingness to help others. The Family Partner is an integral member of the Jumpstart Developmental Clinic Team by assuring that the parent's/guardian's perspective and the integrity of the individual family's culture are fully integrated into the care, evaluation, and support of the child. The Family Partner works in a non-judgmental and respectful manner with the families who come to the clinic and works closely with the families to assist them in accessing resources and services, gain knowledge and experience about their child's needs, and guide them to build their advocacy skills.
