Project Description:
Summer Leadership Experience Camp provides an opportuity for any Kentucky high school upperclassmen with disabilities to attend a transitions to the next step camp. Campers are accepted with priority, including students with disabilities, who are entering high school juniors and seniors and those with articulated plans to enter any type of higher education upon exiting high school. Campers express a desire to continue their education past high school, which may lead to a University, Community College, Training, Certifications, speciality schools and apprenticeships. The need currently exists for high school students with disabilties to learn about educational opportunties past high school and to become better prepared to enter any of the many options available. Objectives include inviting all KY high school students to camp, offering educational and fun activites that teach needed skill sets such as self advocacy, self determination and self disclosure. Benefits include helping youth with disabilities prepare for the next step beyond high school.
