Project Description:
This project combines the efforts of the School of Medicine, the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program and the Center for
Excellence in Disabilities at WVU Health Sciences Center. The primary objectives of this project will be to create and brand three brain injury safety and prevention programs designed for grades PK-4, 5-8, and 9-12 using evidence-based knowledge of risk factors and effective intervention strategies, and provide and assess the three programs for at least 24,000 children in public schools in Monongalia, Braxton, Logan, Hampshire and Ohio Counties. By combining the included partners, an extremely strong and capable team will be
assembled to develop the curricula and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. This project seeks to further WVU's work as a land-grant institution by engaging graduate
level students in innovative programming, working within diverse populations in WV to promote health and vitality, and building opportunities for WVU to provide valuable knowledge across the state. These activities are also part of a larger national network of TBI-related efforts thus, national resources, expertise and the opportunity to contribute to national resources in this area exist. The long-term intent of this project is to improve health outcomes for youth and improve graduate level training by giving them an opportunity to contribute in an applied way to a unique population.
