Project Description:
Description: People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health (MH) needs experience gaps in effective healthcare services more often than the general population. Best Practice Prescribing Guidelines in MH/IDD aimed toward holistic, multi-disciplinary, integrated care approaches will address several issues that lead to mental healthcare disparities, including overuse of polypharmacy that undermines primary health. Treatment recipients and families are integral partners to develop effective guidelines and assure prescribers are aware of and understand the impact that medical and psychosocial factors have on well-being and overall quality of life. Best Practice Guidelines will be made available to 100 prescribers identified by the national START network of providers across the US. A survey and self-assessment will be completed prior to access and then again at 6 months following to measure the impact on prescriber practices, confidence and attitude in treating individuals with MH/IDD. Data analysis will include descriptive, qualitative and quantitative analysis.
