Project Description:
Providing information and technical assistance to communities and regions across the state on leadership and advocacy in intellectual and developmental disabilities. There has been a historical lack of ongoing resources in this area in the state for many years. The goal is to conduct 3 trainings annually in locations around the state with a focus of going where people are. While the main focus of the information is on leadership through the lens of lived experience, there is also an effort to reach out to traditionally under-served groups. The training is made up of current leaders in intellectual and developmental disability services in the state. The outcome is to support first individuals in designing and carrying out personal advocacy plans. A related outcome is to expand local coalitions around issues and concerns in services and supports across the state. The goal is improved services through creating a cadre of informed stakeholders, 60-120 per year while the project is in effect.
