Project Description:
This is a joint project between ICI and the Disabilitiy Law Center to bring community inclusion to day habilitation programs. The project has three major goals. First, to spark a statewide conversation on segregation in day habilitation programs with state and federal agencies, individuals and families and providers. Second, to serve as a catalyst for change, working with policy makers and regulators to identify opportunities for changes within the program, including piloting new approaches to supporting individuals served in day habilitation. Finally, we will work with providers to assist them in maximizing opportunities for inclusion within the day habilitation framework. As a contractor to the Disability Law Center the Institute for Community Inclusion will: Participate in 4-6 monitoring visits in order learn more about provider practices, better understand barriers to community participation and engagement and to identify promising practices Confer with DLC on findings from monitoring visits and implications for developing resource materials for providers Develop, present and archive two different webinars for providers to present promising practices for enhancing community inclusion and participation for day habilitation services Develop and disseminate a brief targeted toward a provider audience on promising practices for day habilitation services. Work collaboratively with the DLC on development of recommendations for regulatory and policy changes.
