Project Description:
Need: The poverty rate for Greater New Orleans (GNO) is 27.2% and the economic situation for children birth to three is worse. Only 450 families were served by Early Head Start in GNO prior to this project. Goals: The overall goals of the Project are: 1) to increase access to high quality childcare for working families with young children in GNO, 2) to build the capacity of childcare centers to provide high quality services, 3) to ensure children and families have access to comprehensive health and educational services; and 4) to support families to become stronger advocates. Unusual Features: This project is a PARTNERSHIP. The Childcare Partners we support continue to manage their programs and we provide training and technical assistance to recruit and retain a highly qualified staff, provide ancillary supports and services , and raise the quality of early learning for ALL the children served enrolled in their center whether or not they are enrolled in our program. Expected Benefits: See our goals above. In addition, it is our expectation that this project will improve the capacity of our Partners to provide high quality childcare to the children/families they serve
