RAINBOW Treatment for Youth with Emotional and Behavioral Dysregulation
Project Description:
RAINBOW treatment is an evidence-based psychosocial intervention for youth with bipolar spectrum disorders. It has not yet been tested more broadly in youth with clinically impairing mood symptoms (irrespective of diagnosis). In addition, we do not yet fully understand the mechanisms that might underlie the treatment's efficacy. The objective of this study is pilot data collection on the efficacy of RAINBOW therapy as applied to a population of emotionally and behaviorally-dysregulated youth (irrespective of diagnosis), as well as the collection of data on potential moderators and mediators of treatment efficacy. This study will recruit 60 youth from the CHLA/UCEDD mental health program, aged 7-13, who are characterized as ""emotionally and behaviorally dysregulated (EBD)"" by virtue of a score ≥ 12 on the Parent General Behavior InventoryShort Form (PGBI). This pilot study will comprise an open-trial pre-post study design. Families recruited into the study will complete study assessments pre and post treatment to contribute preliminary data on the feasibility of intervention implementation in this population, and on symptom outcomes, functioning, and other psychosocial measures of interest pre- and post treatment participation. Other measures collected will include measures of other psychiatric symptoms (e.g., anxiety, trauma), psychosocial functioning, and parent and family factors.
