Maternal Mental Health Now
Project Description:
Every year in Los Angeles, 130,000 women give birth. The Department of Public Health estimates that 20% of these women experience depression, with even higher rates in low-income communities. But, fewer than 1 in 4 new moms are actually screened. At Maternal Mental Health NOW, we want all new moms to be screened for maternal depression and anxiety and for those who are suffering to receive proper treatment. The goal is to have mothers receive treatment and have Infant-Family Mental Health services available and accessible to all families in Los Angeles.
The mission of Maternal Mental Health NOW is to remove barriers to the prevention, screening and treatment of prenatal and postpartum depression in Los Angeles County.
