Project Description:
Health-related accommodations are essential supports/services for adolescents and emerging adults needed to facilitate their full inclusion and participation in school and academic performance. Students who do not receive the needed health-related accommodations may be hindered from performing as needed to be academically successful and reach their academic potential. The purpose of this study is to explore the following: a) the type of health related accommodations by grade level provided to adolescents and emerging adults with spina bifida, ages 9 to 20 years of age enrolled in the Movin' On Up health care transition program, which is a clinical service program, based upon best practices,and standard of care procedures, as identified in their IEP; b) need for parental and/or adolescent/emerging adult to request health related accommodations and the school's response to the request. Study population: Data will be collected from the 219 adolescents and emerging adults who have enrolled in the Movin' On Up health care transition program since January 1, 2011.
