Project Description:
The purpose of this investigation, using a prospective approach with a large sample of children and adolescents seen for diagnostic evaluations, is to examine the impact of IQ, age, comorbid behavior problems and severity of ASD symptoms on the ability of subjects to meet both DSM-IV-TR and DSM-5 criteria for ASD. Each site will enroll 50-75 subjects (including subjects with ASD and subjects determined not to meet ASD diagnostic criteria) over a one-year period. A total of eight Autism Speaks Autism Treatment Network (AS ATN) sites (University of Missouri, University of Pittsburgh, Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, Holland Bloorview Childrens Hospital, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Nationwide Childrens Hospital, Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center, and Vanderbilt University) will participate in this effort. Primary measures will include demographic information, behavioral comorbidity (Aberrant Behavior Checklist, Child Behavior Checklist), IQ and a semi-structured clinical assessment (ADOS). The clinical team at each site will complete the DSM-IV-TR checklist, based upon the information obtained during the assessment. A DSM-5 checklist will subsequently be completed by the same clinical team, based upon the same set of available information.
