Project

Children with ASD and ED Visits

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2020
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in utilization of emergency department services in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), other developmental disabilities (DD), and typically developing children. A prospective cohort study will be implemented in the ED. Multiple outcome measures will be used to characterize ED services in of children identified with ASD, other DD, and typically developing children. By investigating these outcomes, we want to explore both the utilization patterns and the emergency nature of these ED visits. Such information may provide more information on the nature of ED visits as it relates to need for higher levels of service, greater medical complexity or type of emergent care.
