Project Description:
Goal 1: Increase the number of clinical observation and training opportunities available to Va‐LEND trainees within the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. Objective 1: Provide a minimum of 12 clinical observation opportunities to Va‐LEND long term trainees at UVA Medical Center interdisciplinary clinics that serve children and youth with developmental disabilities. Activities: 1.1.1 UVA will identify possible clinics and provide logistical information to Va‐LEND by the end of Month 1. 1.1.2 Va‐LEND will disseminate Clinic information and identify potential long term trainees interested in taking advantage of UVA clinic observations. 1.1.3 UVA Clinical Supervisor will serve as point of contact for Va‐LEND trainees who wish to observe UVA clinics, make arrangements for their attendance, and will provide any necessary background information needed prior to each clinic observation. 1.1.4 A Va‐LEND Training Director with debrief Va‐LEND trainees about their clinic observations at UVA and provide any relevant information to the UVA Clinical Supervisor. Goal 2: Increase the number and type of opportunities for UVA Developmental Pediatric and Autism Fellows/trainees to become aware of current disability policy issues at the state and national level. Objective 2.1 Va‐LEND will provide opportunities for at least 2 UVA Fellows/Autism trainees to participate in state and national disability learning events via live internet streaming and webinars. Activities: 2.1.1 Va‐LEND will allow UVA trainees to participate through distance technology (i.e., Zoom) in Seminar I sessions dealing with state and national disability policy during months 2 and 3 of the grant. 2.1.2 Va‐LEND will provide information to the UVA Division of Developmental Pediatrics of all AUCD identified webinars or distance education opportunities focusing on disability policy. 2.1.3 Va‐LEND will invite UVA Fellows/trainees to participate on‐line in the Mid‐ Atlantic LEND Disability Policy conference during Month 2 (November). Objective 2.2 Va‐LEND will include at least 2 UVA Fellows/trainees in its LEND delegation at the Disability Policy Seminar to be held in April 2019. Activities: 2.2.1 Va‐LEND will include interested UVA Fellows/trainees in all pre‐Seminar preparation activities conducted through Va‐LEND and the Partnership for People with Disabilities (Virginias UCEDD). 2.2.2 Va‐LEND will ensure that UVA Fellows/trainees are included as part of the Va‐ LEND delegation during the 4 days of Seminar activities including Hill visits. 2.2.3 Va‐LEND PI will debrief with UVA and Va‐LEND trainees together within a month after the Disability Seminar identifying any follow‐up disability policy activities that can be accomplished before the end of the grant period. Goal 3: Establish an on‐going relationship between Va‐LEND and the UVA Developmental Pediatric program that will include trainee exchange and other collaborative training opportunities that become available during the timeframe of the project and continue into the future. Objective 3.1 UVA and Va‐LEND will develop a plan for exploring clinical resources and needs in rural Southwest Virginia Activities: 3.1.1 UVA and a Training Director from Va‐LEND will make a joint visit after identify specific goals for the visit to SW Virginia. 3.1.2 UVA to identify county/cities for an initial joint visit and make arrangements for a 2 day visit during Spring 2019 in Month 7 or 8. 3.1.3 Visit takes place in Month 7 or 8 3.1.4 UVA staff and Va‐LEND Training Director and PI debrief on what was observed and jointly plan next steps if appropriate.
